If that was 2 tickets, then... Bargain! I'm going tonight, and it's £7.50 a ticket, so that's (erm...counts fingers...) £15, without the beer and ice-cream. Indeed, our 'family policy' is not to buy extras at the flicks, at they're so outrageously 'spensive.
If going with the kids, we take some sweets with us (or popcorn) and I've been known to smuggle wine in, disguised as something in a flask

buy a projector at home, put a surround sound system in

massive screen, great sound, beer and food and comfort breaks when you like them
no squeezing past people
no annoying teenagers on their mobiles and chatting all the time

The cinema is expensive when compared to watching a film on DVD at home.

But cheap when compared to going to the theatre, restuarant, pub or watching a live sporting event etc.

Your mistake was in allowing the cinema to coerce you ito buying their rubbish sweets and drinks at the till. In the old days you bought a cinema ticket and you went in and sat down, end of.

Cineworld Unlimited card - £14.99 a month, see as many films as you like, and 25% off all food and drink once you've had the card a year. There's been months where I don't use it at all, then others when I go three or four times in a week, so I always get my money's worth out of it... Course it's limited use though if you're nowhere near a cineworld...

I go most weeks but the big cinemas/multiplexes never have any films on that I want to see. I like dialogue driven movies with minimal action/CGI/car chases etc

So I use Hyde Park Picture House in Leeds or the Cubby Broccoli & Pictureville cinemas in Bradford, films are about £4/5 with no rip-off food costs. That price is about "right" IMO.

£7.55 each peak times at our local Vue, £9.55 if 3D.
Winds me up the amount of noisy eaters and talkers that the cinema attracts, as Mark Kermode said the other week;"We have turned our living rooms into cinemas and our cinemas into living rooms".
Cost is not cheap but some films just have to be on the big screen.

Trouble is, I get this at home too.
