I'm hoping this isn't an inappropriate post for CC. If so happy if it's moved or deleted.

Does anyone in the CC hive mind have experience of the Citroen Cactus Flair. I'm looking at the petrol version and can get either 82 or 116bhp. I'm especially interested in experience of how much power the 82bhp delivers? How much acceleration one can get in higher gears as I'm used to diesels.

I recently retired and have to buy a car. Having driven company Peugeot 3008 and Nissan Qashqai for the last eight years I'm looking for a smaller SUV probably this Citron or the Peugeot 2008.

Having test driven several smaller vehicles, Clio size, I don't think I'll be happy in that range.

Don't get too technical on me!

The higher output will be a bit more handy without much of a fuel penalty.

82bhp should be plenty if your mainly a town user but if you do a lot of long distance on motorways I would go for the 116bhp so you can keep a bit in the bag for overtaking not that the 82 isn't capable.

I find citroen engines reliable and solid but check where the batteries are. In the Picasso it is under the drivers dash so very hard to access if the battery goes flat or needs jumping!

Mrs D briefly had the 82 engine in a Peugeot 2008. Its no Lambo, but it was sprightly and willing, felt like a bigger engine. If you drive like a normal human being it is decent enough, and because it doesn't have a blower it won't be all loose and rattly by 40,000 miles like the turbo 1.2.

As an aside, Mrs D didn't like the 2008. She's had many new Pugs, something like 25 (she has a relative works for the PSA head office, can buy so many a year at cost so Mrs D used to buy them, drive them ten or twelve months, sell them at a slight profit) and loved every one, except the 2008. Nothing specific, just didn't gel with it. I personally found it physically too small inside for a tall fat git like me, but otherwise had no objections to it.

you can jump start them from under the bonnet

No experience of the Cactus range but its a Citroen so should be fine with a bit of quirkyness thrown in for good luck

Got a citroen sitting in the driveway with the 110bhp engine in it, seems to be fuel efficient enough and goes OK - we previously had a diesel engine which was great at hill climbing but don't notice much delay with the petrol, the newer engines are generally great.

My uncle got a 2008 a couple of months ago, my 6ft high head kept hitting the roof whenever I got in or out, it seems very crampt. My gran refuses to sit in the back, says its too dark - I had similar problems when I had a Citroen DS loan car.

They are standard hire cars it seems. Our friend keeps getting given one. It gets him to and from airports fine.

The padding is nothing more than a fashion accessory. Were it a serious attempt to prevent minor dings it would be over wheel arch lips and bumper corners.

My understanding is that the morons are in the other vehicles that ding the doors in car parks.
