Unfreaking believable, not dissimilar to twickenham Cyclist's encounter.

Shoreditch High St, westbound, 7.40 today. Traffic queueing, so the van pulls over to the wrong side of the road to overtake the queue. The queue won't let him back in, so he swerves onto the wrong side again, skirts a traffic island and then barges back in the queue.

I filter ahead of him and wait to go straight on, he undertakes and swerves violently to the right to go down old St, brushing my shoulder so I jam the brakes on to avoid going under the wheels.

Incredibly aggressive, illegal driving from a man who drives for a living, in a liveried company vehicle.

I've called and emailed the company, another witness said they'd do the same.

Could've been an urgent delivery?

Whilst it is clearly wrong for this driver to be behaving like that, the company must bear some responsibility for imposing unrealistic deadlines on its drivers and linking the fee paid to the driver to the delivery time.

These kind of drivers don't exactly get paid much, and company practices like these are part of the reason they drive like nutters

Their email back spells my name wrong and gets the grammar muddled:

Dear Phillip,
Thank you for your email. I have forwarded this onto our fleet
department, whom will contact you to resolve this matter.

Sounds pretty horrible - Did you get the contact details for the witness? – you’ve half a chance with the police if you have a decent independent witness.

My advice would be to become the biggest pain in the arse for CitySprint – just keep calling, e-mailing and hassling

Mmmmm, Bishopsgate cop shop say I can make a complaint and the CCTV footage will be viewed. I know almost the exact time and location, and City Sprint haven't got back to me....

The goon was driving at 30mph plus on the wrong side of the road for a couple of hundred yards!

Update- They've called, very apologetic fleet manager, the driver's out of London but been called in for a disciplinary. It helped, probably, that my company use that firm. hate getting someone in trouble but this was so reckless I thought the van was nicked!

Good for you well done...

The only problem now is will the driver want his revenge and take it out aon other/all cyclists?

Its a risk we take, but I would report them as well...

When I cycled a few times in May before my puntures put me off, I got clipped badly by a female driver in Renault, her wing mirror clicked my funny bone on my right arm, and the rubber padding trim along the side left a black mark on my calf.

Did she stop, Nope!!

I caught up with her a few yards later, as the traffic was stationary. She had not even realised the collision with my arm had pressed the wing mirror flat against her window!

She was apologetic but I bet 10 seconds later all was forgotten

I know, I already have my doubts about the intelligence of a man who thinks he can act like that in a van with his employer's name emblazoned across the side and back....
