Racism, homophobia and misogyny (look it up) have no place on a public service broadcaster. Period.

BTW, who is Guy Martin, or is it some guy called Martin?
I suppose he could be considered bearable but only just, that's assuming you have the facility to mute the sound on your tv:sad:.

Rent a gob Katie Hopkins is now defending him on Radio 2. If she is on your side then you may as well take your racist, homophobic, misogynistic person back to Chipping Norton and have tea with David and Sam.... :okay:

Jeremy Clarkson co-owning the production company would likely profit massively from an end to the BBC relationship.

So is the Clarkson Show soon going to ITV or even Sky ?
Rumour of a bidding war. Wouldn't surprise me if Clarkson staged this as they are all at the end of their contracts.

Don't see how that would help him. At the end of their contracts, they can do the bidding way anyway only now they are doing it with the cloud of 'the BBC are unlikely to ask us back' over their heads. If you wanted conspiracy, then it sounds like the best time for the BBC to make them seem much less desirable.

Yeabbut it's just a joke.

No, it's more than just a joke... Top Gear's satirical thrust is to ape and exaggerate (ed: "underplay"?) the mentality of oafish car drivers / "road tax" payers / people who've got more money than sense and think a fast car is a sex toy. The boys (especially Clarkson), by *acting* in a public arena this way, open the debate on key questions about how such moronic drivers behave and should be treated. If we villify Clarkson, should we not place all the other idiots in the same tank?

It's actually very clever comedy (hey it's okay if you don't actually find it funny because it doesn't push your buttons, that's fine, I don't find Benidorm remotely amusing, nor Mrs Brown's Boys, though I accept their comic value) and sharply satirical and ironic both in specific content and as a general concept - actually I'm surprised how few people grasp this simple reality.

Who, me ?
I reckon JC will get the boot. He doesn't just do presenting though; he writes the scripts and his school buddy Andy Willman is the executive producer. Between them they drive the whole style of the show, the ideas, visual style etc. I reckon when Clarkson goes, May, Hammond and Willman will go as well and so will Top Gear in its current format. "Top Gear" as a programme might come back in a different format but it won't be (for better or worse) the Top Gear we know now.

Many shows have been restyled including Top Gear itself. I suspect it's going to have to be something really special if it can attract the audience and achieve international sales like this one has.

I can't see anyone trying to prevent you from making an idiot of yourself.

You're making the link. I said that suggesting an escalation of violence as a potential solution is dumb.

ETA: Looking back, I didn't even say that. I inferred it. It is dumb though.

No, you implied it. It's up to the rest of us to infer it from what you wrote.
:okay:

Sabine Schmitz already presents for the German D-Motor series. She'd be great for Top Gear but I doubt she'd do a full run.

Where it me, I'd do something like HIGNFY did after Angus Deayton left- guest presenters with Hammond and May. The guest presenter thing works well there....
Thought she did the German version.

Contracts set to end in September, 6 months to sort something out.
The show ends, wouldn't the other two contracts be stopped and therefore settlement reached with those affected?

Contracts a contract, the BBC could choose not to end them early, but not to use them either, just leave Clarkson to stew for 6 months and watch his collateral ebb? It's quite common for the BBC to contract for multiple seasons of a show (don't know if this is the case here) and then when renegotiation comes up play hard ball. They've definitely gone for damaging a program they weren't looking to renew in the past to make it less attractive to other broadcasters. Also they tend to keep a lot of the intellectual property in house where they can so that it's difficult for another broadcaster to exactly replicate a successful program. I think it's unlikely Top Gear as is would just crop up on another channel and I wouldn't be surprised if the Beeb keep Hammond and May on, just letting Clarkson go. They've groomed them for other things and it's not like they don't have a history of letting go prominent celebrities for a while.
