Savile was all shrouded in secrecy for years. Clarkson has a petition and is plastered over the news in hours. There is a difference in actions by both them and the BBC.
Clarkson is not being protected in the same way. If he was we nobody would know about it.
Attitudes and society have changed over the intervening years since Savile was on TV in the way things are dealt with. (Anyone remember 'Love Thy Neighbour' the 70s TV program? - makes me cringe)
Establishment behaviour has changed too - in the past they just ignored Saville's abuse or hoped it would stop. These days the PM thinks the UK population is so stupid he can go on TV and advocate for a guy who hospitalises his colleagues. Plenty of people seem to think he's got good judgement. I wonder whether the victim would be receiving death threats if Cameron had said categorically that physical violence should have no place in the working lives of UK citizens.

Chances are if the racist xenophobic story is proved true, Jezza may have no future on any UK TV channel.
Doesn't matter - being mentioned in the same article is well out of order.
Clarkson has used the defence of free speech to bully minorities for years - why are you so sensitive now ?

Some of the issues surrounding Saville's behaviour at the BBC echo with the Clarkson case, many don't - you need to see it for what it is: "Talent" abusing a position of power.

Simply because he's allegedly earned the BBC alot of money over the years doesn't mean he can act like a complete nobber and bully people.
I don't think that most people would disagree. It seems he went to the pub, came back hungry, and took a swing at his producer in a booze-fuelled melt-down. I don't approve or excuse that behaviour in any way and I'm sure that if his victim wishes to press charges, he will get a fair hearing and JC might be convicted of something. I don't know if he has a long history of bullying. He certainly has a long history of winding people up. To compare that stuff to Saville, and the BBC's response to him, is ludicrous. The "it's all on the same spectrum" argument is risible, IMVHO.

Personally, I don't think the Clarkson/Saville comparison does anything to strengthen the arguments of those who believe JC should be punished.

Which is why none of us have actually compared Clarkson and Saville!

What has been compared is the level of protection being given.

It's a bit more complicated than that...

It's not intended to. It's intended to point out that the BBC isn't very good at facing up to the bad behaviour of its stars.

If you or I had done half the things Clarkson had done we would have been out of a job years ago.

Absolutely, but I think that lumping Clarkson and Saville together as an example of how a cover-up has occurred at the BBC somehow suggests that their misdemeanours are on a roughly similar scale. I don't think they are. Others might disagree.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that at all.
But isn't there a tendency to smear the issues a bit?

"That Clarkson bloke likes motor cars"
"Yeah, they killed millions of people, didn't they?"
"Albert Eichmann killed millions of people too, didn't he?"
"He probably voted Tory as well"

Etc.

It has been made clear time and time and time again that it is a comparison of the way that the BBC and others protect these individuals

Invoking Godwin really does not change that no matter how hard you try
