"Reworked" is putting it mildly. SAAB were supposed to be restyling the GM product to save money but instead were so comprehensively re-engineering them that the expense is what finally sunk the company. Aside from the powertrains, one thing GM fortunately did fairly well, there was precious little carryover into the actual SAAB product.

If they'd stuck to the brief they'd probably still be with us today, but I'd rather they were gone than simply be Opel's with different badges and grille.

I test drove a couple of GM era 93 models and was unimpressed, both with the brand new estate and an older (well same age as the new one but a few years later) convertible and neither was at all nice.

The then 10 year old 95 was lovely, perhaps the nicest-to-drive car I've ever owned or driven, and an older 900 turbo convertible was pretty nice too

Almost bought a new 93, a non turbo. It was comfy and cosy, just what I needed, but Mrs D mk1 had other ideas.

It was just quirky enough to be different. Northjing actually wrong with it, but being constrained by increasing regulations for safety, emissions, etc, was pushing all manufacturers in a more uniform direction and I don't think its mediocrity was really anything to do with it's GM DNA, which'd had a full Jurassic Park job done on it by the time it became a SAAB.

Sadly Mrs D mk1 didn't want one partked next to her Boxster.

Its not as if setting fire to a Marina devalues them.

Hateful things, a huge BL insult to the buying public. Morris Minor derived front suspension FFS. They cynically knew fleet buyers and some of rhe public still distrusted FWD so cobbled this mess together to half heartedly fill that gap. I've driven wooden go karts with pram wheels that went better. They were crap then, and the passage of time hasnt made them any less crap.

When I was working at a Toyota dealership we had a red one of these turn up prior to them being released to the general public.

Boy it had loads of staff demonstration drives before it got placed in the centre of the showroom.
