a strip of rag soaked in IPA or GT85 will get the gunk off your cassette
Thanks. I've got myself an old t-shirt and a couple of old CDs and was going to clean the cassette on the old bike with those, after soaking the t-shirt in this - http://www.planetx.co.uk/i/q/TOMODEG/muc-off-degreaser

Is GT85 basically the same thing but cheaper? Or is that Muc-Off better? And if buying the GT85 can I use a quick squirt of that for keeping brake levers and deraileurrs lubricated on my new bike (bearing in mind I'm only dry-weather riding on that one), or would the dry lube that I'm going to use on the chain be better for that job?

GT85 is a good 'little and often' lubricant.

It has a some solvent in it to lift dirt/grease, the solvent evaporates leaving a light lubricating film behind.

Fine for a quick squirt now and again on brake levers, cables, etc.

A squirt and wipe on your derailleur will keep it clean and lubed.

Without wishing to go around in circles, a GT85 squirt and wipe is all the chain needs - provided you do it after every ride, or at least every few days.
