Cleaning Mould/Mildew

Boring thread alert!

Looking for advice, I live in a rental so I'm not after a long term fix but something for the meantime.

I've setup a "pain cave" with zwift/turbotrainer etc in the basement and noticed a load of black all over the walls that I can only assume probably isnt doing my lungs any favours. There's washing machines and tumble driers down there and not an awful lot in the way of ventilation. As it's a rental my goal is to make it somewhere I can train healthily, rather the "fix" the problem all together. I have notified the landlord.

Is an afternoon date with marigolds and bleach based cleaner the best way forward? It's quite a large area so I think I might actually scrub the walls with a stiff wooden broom rather than a sponge or something as it would take forever! It's all bare brick.

bleach or black mould remover should do it, but if it's in a basement then unless it's tanked it's likely to come back at some point,

As said bleach or mould remover which tend to be bleach based.

Mould remover spray. Don't be tempted to scrub it with a brush first as you may release mould spores which will NOT do you any good.

Bleach. Strongish dilution in hottish water, clean off with sponge/cloth wearing rubber gloves.

Well, it turns out I'm busy after my ride on Saturday after all!

It will come back, you need to get a dehumidifer up and running as well.

I'm only planning on staying there until summer realistically so I think having notified the landlord I'm probably not going to bother with much other than a good scrub. It's my health in the short time im more concerned with

How are you going to stop the mold coming back then? the bleach alone wont stop it reacurring. It will start coming back straight away. I know all this because I've had a condensation problem in my house and it needs a full air change everyday, the dehumifier on and all the walls have been treated with special paints. My colleague got plurisy from black mold/damp in his house and ended up having to go to outpatients it got that bad.

Crikey, I didnt realise it would start to come back so quickly. Thanks for the heads up, I'll put a bit more pressure on my landlord in that case.

Use white distilled vinegar and pour it into a spray bottle without watering it down. Spray the vinegar onto the mouldy surface and leave it to sit for an hour. Finally, wipe the area clean with water and allow the surface to dry. Any smell from the vinegar should clear within a few hours.
Vinegar can kill roughly 80% of moulds..

Try Baking Soda , 1/4 teaspoon in water spray bottle..Shake until dissolved. Spray affected area, either use a sponge or use a scrubbing brush. Spray again and let dry.

You could try a mix of vinegar and BSoda.....

Get that mould-remover spray. I've done it twice in the last few months for early signs of the stuff. Spray on, leave a few minutes, rub/wipe off with a slightly damp cloth. And leave the windows open the rest of the day.

The dark marks came back after about 6-8 weeks, so that's why I did it again. Will have to again in not too long I suppose, but it's good to get to it before it can become proper mold. It won't be an issue where I live once out of winter.
