Cleaning my new bike

Came back today after my first ride, getting used to the gears was a bit daunting, more practice!
What is the correct procedure and materials to use to clean the gear chain bits. they are a bit dusty and mucky and want to clean the gear chain parts the correct way.

I did look in Tescos and they had a trio of products and here are they OK?

Your first ride? Is your bicycle new? If it is new, the grease from the factory is usually pretty good stuff and you might not want to remove it so soon. You will probably get many different answers on what is the best way to clean and lube your chain. That being said, I use mineral spirits and an old rag to clean my chain on the bike. I then lube the chain with a product called Chain L. Has worked well so far and if applied as directed not messy either.
