Your foot is attached to the peddle.
Advantage - better at getting the power down.secure on hills especially when standing on the pedals. Knees and ankles are at the correct angle once correctly adjusted. They look the part

Disadvantage - hard to walk with spd-sl road shoes. Clipless moments.

I use normal peddles on my commuter and my feet move around. Hate it. Looking at mtb style cleats.

Best bike = spd-sl peddles and road shoes. LOVE IT!

I use toe clips and straps as they stop my feet flying off the pedals when I go over bumps and such. I've thought of using clipless for the extra efficiency but the thought of having to carry and change shoes at the end of each ride really puts me off. Are there any shoes with cleats that are good and comfortable for walking around in, say at work all day or in case I had the walk the bike home for some reason.

my mtb shoes are fine for that

lace up, look like regular grey trainers, inset spd-i (?) two hole cleats

I seem to remember they're shimano, but they could be specialized
