Must admit it is quite clever. For some reason though I wouldn't be compelled to order anything just in case I broke the site, LOL

Sorry, but my opinion is that it is a very stupid example of web design!

I have worked with designers like that who spent months doing something the 'clever' way rather than hours doing it properly.

My first problem with the site is that it is Flash-based so it doesn't work if you have Flash disabled. I have Flash disabled by default so I don't even see the content on such sites. I switched it on this time to see what you were talking about. Yes, it's fun, but that leads me to the second problem...

Which is - does it make me want to buy something from that site? Answer: no! I watched what was going on and then decided that I'd wasted enough time and shut it down. I reckon the site owners weren't really trying to entertain people, they were trying to sell products and I don't think the 'clever' animations achieve that.

Still, if people want to run a 'Keep clever Flash animators in employment in these hard economic times' charity, why not! ;)

Looking at it again, you can't click on any of the items. It really is just fun. In the same way that the Honda ad with all the components rolling into each other was fun.

Still, if I'm in Holland and need some plastic beakers, I know to look out for a Hema store, which I'd never heard of before. I don't imagine it'll stop anyone shopping there, but it might make a few people think - hey that the store with the funny website!

Job done.

Me too, didn't expect anyone to take it that seriously Col

Well, actually I did think it was fun, but I just thought it was probably a waste of the site owner's money.

Mind you, we are probably just a few of the hundreds of people now discussing the site so perhaps it was a clever gimmick to get publicity for the site in which case it worked - a good example of linkbait. I'll check...

Okay, I take it back - that webpage has got over 12,000 sites linking to it, so good on 'em!

(I still don't like Flash-only sites though. They should detect whether you have Flash enabled and offer an alternative page if you do not.)

+1

All I get is "You need to upgrade your Flash Player"

Any site which ORDERS me to do something is poor on accessibility, rude, and incorrect as my Flash player is bang up-to-date. I just have javascript turned off except for trusted domains.
