Well, that's my thinking. I like having some retention, and, as I said, I was a strong advocate of clips & straps before, when they were deeply unfashionable (how many clipless systems can you adjust the tension as you ride?). If only for the ease of resetting the pedals when I stop to an optimal position for setting off, clipless wins it. And, to add to the ease, despite my favourite SPD pedal being the A520 single sided, knowing I can just push down and clip in gives me a nice feeling of satisfaction.
