So I've bought my bike and all the bits I need, helmet, padded shorts, bright orange and black top, gloves etc. I wore it all today for my first ride. Do I look stupid wearing all that gear as I've only got a beginners bike and I'm only just starting out? Is that all for the professional?

99% of the people that see you won't have a clue if your bike is worth 10p or 10k, so just get out there, pedal away and enjoy yourself

Speak for yourself. I think I look very nice in my tights and nice red cycling jersey  Shame about the trainers though. Kind of lets the professional imagine down.

My body shape is more suited to being Peter Kays chief competitor in the World Bombing Championships than modelling Lycra

Please tell me you don't cycle showing a bum crack like that!

Why is it frowned upon?

I'm sure you look great.

Second thoughts; you might look a tad foolish.

On reflection; you look blooming ridiculous - welcome to the club! With clothing: brighter the better and the more contrasting colours you have the more likely it is that the Lunatics Behind The Wheels Of Big Cars :mrpig: will see you.

Don't fret about your clobber, just ride your bike and stay safe.
