Morning all,
Having put together my Dawes Discovery myself, I've found that when braking sometimes theres a 'clunk' sound that comes from the stem area and is felt through the handlebars. Everything seems solid and I'm wondering what could be the cause of this sound?

Cheers

Lean on the bars, apply the front brakes tightly and rock the bike back and forward while watching/feeling carefully for movement in the headset.

Ensure the stem binder bolt is tight, and also the clamp which holds the bars to the stem. Ensure you haven't gone past the minimum insertion mark if you have a traditional quill stem.

Ensure the brake caliper itself is tight and if it's an old single pivot side pull type, make sure the arms aren't too loose. Also check the rim for blips/damage/rough spot.
