We all had to start out looking after ourselves, and of course with the passage of years, go back to doing it again..nowadays it's still latex tubes in tyres (go down faster but a much nicer ride and more puncture resistance) inside nice good quality 25c, or tubs on a nice day. Just to bring the memories back..

The circle of life turns for every one of us doesn't it? Glad you are still enjoying it and I bet you have some great memories to look back on.

I think the OP has a controllable dubichat, so it sounds to me that something else was the problem.

If you only have a CO2 inflator with you, you can blow air into the inner tube using your mouth to give it form before placing it on the rim. Blow as hard as you can and then as you withdraw the valve from your mouth catch the presta valve lock screw between your lips to pull it closed, then screw tight until ready to inflate.
