I'm with Jo - some cocks are real bullies. The only reason to have one is because you like them, unless you want to raise chicks of course.
I've heard it's broadly similar in the world of poultry keeping. :o)

FYI, cockerels keep their, ahem, doodles up where you'd expect the lungs to be.
You learn something new every day!

Somebody living near to my old house in Hebden Bridge kept a noisy cockerel in their back garden. It used to wake me up most mornings. After a couple of years, that stopped happening. I thought it must have died but then I heard it later in the day. I think I had just got used to it. I lived about 100 metres away - I would have been pretty annoyed if I had lived right next door to it!

I used to live in a suburb with a lot of greek neighbours. You could always tell the date of orthodox lent by the sounds of bleating from back gardens around, and the date of orthodox Easter, when the bleating stopped, and the barbecues started.

I think I had just got used to it.
You can get used to intermittent noise, like trains and planes and roosters. You never get used to constant noise, apparently, like roads or machines.

(I live under Heathrow flight path, but that never wakes me any more.)

Do you know what time it is by flight arrival?

Or taste nice roasted.
What does guinea pig taste like?

I'm guessing chicken.

I live fairly close to working farms and regularly wake up to the sound of geese, cockerels, sheep and cows not to mention the sounds of the dawn chorus, the joys of living in the countryside. We even get to see the fallow deer in the fields early doors.
