[snip] I'd rather chance the odd kid misbehaving than have coffee-shops populated entirely by miserable old gits who are hiding from women and children and taking themselves and their coffee rather too seriously.
Sounds my ideal coffe shop! Do you have the address?

I am somewhat amused by all the complaints of misbehaving children have any of you had kids? Obviously I'm fully aware that some parents deal with this better than others. However children and their tempers are about as predictable as volcanoes.

nope, as per my previous input I'm childless and prefer my life that way, and I'd prefer other people to keep their children in their sphere and away from mine

in the past parents would control their children through a thing called discipline, nowadays that is apparently not allowed

You are aware that below a certain age children don't understand it? And I highly suggest that if you don't like children as much as it comes across you stay inside for the rest of your life. They are somewhat unavoidable seeing as most of do get around to using our genitals at some point.

I'm not sue it was temper tantrums that were being mentioned earlier, which as you say can be fairly explosive and unpredictable.

It was more about the parents who take their children to a coffee shop, or other place that isn't a playground, and sort of detonate them into the previously quiet enjoyment of anyone else who happens to be there.

When I was a child (cue theme from Hovis ad' ), even had I been inclined to run around a cafe screaming, my parents certainly wouldn't have allowed it. A proper upbringing means a child will know how to behave.

( not yet 40 and it seems I'm an old fart  )

(ETA, cross posted there)
I would like all coffe shops to only label coffees with godd old-fashioned anglo-saxon names. Terms such as "cafe latte" should be banned for being excessively middle-class.
What an excellent idea, I wouldn't need to explain the difference between flat white and lathered any more, nor why Starbucks went wrong with their introduction of chai tea.

I think we should start with a place near the station in Cookham, I'd certainly go more often. ;)

yes, but that doesn't mean that parents have a right to let them run riot

And I highly suggest that if you don't like children as much as it comes across you stay inside for the rest of your life. They are somewhat unavoidable seeing as most of do get around to using our genitals at some point.

err why should I restrict my life just because other people cant control their loins or the offspring from them?

They are generally avoidable, and I generally avoid them, but this is what I hate about kids so much, not so much the child, but their parents view that they are god's gift to the world and we should all be grateful and appreciate them for the wonders that they are, whereas generally they are snotty annoying little shoot producers

How about all the coffee drinkers wear cameras, that way when some imbecile with a pushchair disturbs their precious coffee time they can then post the video up on coffeechat.com and bitch and whine about it?

i guess you have kids and think they are wonderful and everyone should think the same?

But most parents do not have this view I certainly don't. I'm well aware that my child is just another child. But then I clearly live in some weird alternate universe. You come across as bitter and weird frankly but each to their own.

do I? why's that then? because I happen to disagree with you? just because I dont want to be annoyed by other people's children?

That's not bitter or weird, just a personal preference, and when I was brought up children weren't allowed to behave in the way they do now, and parents had a sense of responsibility.

I never said that. We all come across people who have annoying children and do little about their behaviour it annoys me as well that's why I would not let my child do it as do most other parents in my experience. However children do have a tendency to be a bit unpredictable and should our little one start crying etc in a cafe I would take him outside to calm down and then carry on. under the age of one you can hardly start disciplinary proceedings on them as they simply cannot understand.
