They're different co-operative societies using the same branded goods. For example, my local co-op shop is a Central England shop. The Central England co-operative society has just merged with the Midcounties co-operative society so they will have branches over a large geographical area.

We are aware of there being a split, but it only became apparent when my wife tried to get the points on her divi card! They seem to have strange geographical areas though, and indeed one of our locals (In Norfolk) is Central England Co-op

yes, lol I was going to say its the divi card  and they look at you like youve walked into the slaughtered lamb, what is this divi card you are waving at us.

the weird thing is growing up, it was just the Co-op same branding as all the other Co-ops, they actually only became the East of England Co-op about 20 years ago.

i suspect Greggs is more popular for its food offerings
Indeed. When Gregg's are selling their cookie range for £1.35 each or a pack of four for £2.80, it seems that someone at Gregg's is missing the point. They could easily knock the individual cookies down to £1 each and still make a healthy profit on them.

You now pay £3 or more for a coffee nearly everywhere. Yet material cost is likely about 10p + cup cost.
A beer in the pub is better value.
I don't use Greggs much now but it always was much fast food. In the early days it was also where many bought their stotties and other fresh breads.
