I have had enough of coffin dodger drivers. There have been several incidents in the last week where coffin dodger drivers have got extremely close to me, three of them I'm not sure if it was deliberate to try to force me off the road but it sure felt like it or whether it was because their standard of driving was so poor due to their advanced age and failing faculties I cannot tell. On each occasion I looked back at them several times as they approached. The latest yesterday late afternoon about 5pm had a second go at me as he must have taken a detour to visit a fellow wrinkly having close passed me the first time. However second time about 10-15 minutes later I was ready for him as I heard and saw him approaching from a long way back as he turned on to the road. I felt like I was in Steven Spielberg movie. He wasn't going especially fast but he came up so close behind I thought he was going to hit me. I was travelling at about 20mph on a twistyish narrowish part of road with double white lines down the middle. He then crashed his gearbox as he changed gear. So I sat up and stared round back at him and his car. He drove right at me then swung out right at the last second to avoid me crossing double whites on a blind bend which we were now on. I shouted at him "Oi! Careful Grandad" He was way over 70 years old with snow white hair with an equally wrinkly female passenger. He was in a red Citroen Xantia I think, reg H6 RKD. If you see this car or guy get off the road as he is likely to crash into you whether he has defective sight or is a bad driver or is maliciously targetting cyclists I can't tell. Maybe it is a combination of all three.

On wednesday evening an old bat in a white Peugeot 406 R870 GFG deliberately close passed me despite me eyeballing her well in advance as she approached from behind. As she drove by she shouted out the passenger window across the younger male passenger "Get off the zarking road!" Charming. She was pretty fat as well which is another indicator in my experience that a driver is likely to close pass or cut you up.

All wrinklies should be retested on their 70th birthday and then every 3 years. The scheduled re-tests should be free for it to have any effect.

I had one close overtake tonight, I beeped the driver for this and made a pushing out to the right motion with his arm. He took such offence at this that he beeped repeatedly in frustration, how I laughed.

More importantly, drivers like this one may not like the feedback on their performance, but most of them learn from it and overtake much better in future. Not only that, but you end up educating all the other drivers that saw the close overtaker's misdemeanor.

Possibly time to report the wrinkly......if he get's a couple more reports he may well not be on the road.

Can honestly say, some older folk are dangerous, most are fine, but as age hits us all you are not as good as you were. My FIL has pretty crap vision.... and has lot's of little 'bumps' in his cars....

An old lady pulled out on you the other day because she didn't have the sense to wear sunglasses.

The sun's there quite a lot during daylight hours, sometime's it's even bright. This is a perfectly predicable hazard and I really wish people would stop using/excepting it as an excuse.

Thankfully the sun is the same brightness every day. If it ever starts to fluctuate then we are all in trouble. :cold:
