Cold air + damp + inexperience = bad

Hi,

Got on the bike today after a break for two weeks and man... it wasn't a very pleasant experience. I'm not talking about the effort involved but the way my throat and lungs felt. I don't have any infections so we can rule that out but the cold air gave me a sort of sick feeling in my lungs, back of throat and the cold damp in the air was definitely affecting it.

Anyone else experienced this?

I suffer from asthma a little bit, and the cold damp air certainly makes it worse.
Sometimes the smallest of hills, which I barely even notice most days will make my chest hurt like i've been breathing napalm.

Not pleasant.

Have had this in freezing fog conditions. Not asthma in my case, I think it was due to pollution trapped by temperature inversion. Now I am quite careful in such weather.
