Cold commute

This is a typical December, but with very little snow.

The mix of rain yesterday and cold this morning caused two collisions on our car park within a few minutes of each other resulting in 4 damaged cars and one fall resulting in a lot of laughing and a ripped pair of trousers ! I suspect it was the typical car drivers approach of it's warm in here so it must be O.k outside. The pavements and the gutters on my way to work were frozen solid and the puddles were shear ice. On the plus side my beard didn't freeze so it's not super cold yet !

I overcompensated this morning. 3 degrees and sleety, so as well as the w/proof jacket I wore the trousers as well. It was all a bit much with the thermal lycra gear and I was a bit too hot for comfort over the last 3 mile stretch.

No hail or snow here yet but the cycle path had patches of sheet ice where the puddles had frozen as well as that frosty sheen , only my fingers were cold on the homeward bound trip as they got cold while sticking lights etc back on the bike in the cycle rack.Took me about 7-8 miles for them to warm up even though the rest of me was baking .
The Aldi waterproof i bought it very good for the £30 it cost , the rear flap and pocket`s ( which i left unzipped) meant i did not boil in the bag , long enough at the back to keep the chill of my lower back as well which can be a problematic area.

0 deg (-3 wind chill) best described as 'bracing'. Light dusting of snow and ice covering the puddles. Kept to the roads that had been gritted this morning, not as nice as my normal 'traffic free' route. Safety first.

I done the same thing this morning, paths were just covered in frost and puddles were ice :cold:

I'm back to wearing the 3/4 length shorts! It's not cold enough for full length trous yet. Overshoes have been put on though.

Been trekking Walthamstow > Westminster for 3 months now and touch wood never had an icy trickle of rain down my back dreading that. Couple of drizzle commutes but so far so good...... fingers crossed....

Been wearing running leggings for at least a month over my shorts , i find them just the right amount of protection without getting to warm.

Hailing yesterday morning for the homeward commute , looking out of the window i think the car might be the better option.....
