Yes they would make a difference but a bit early in the year if you ask me

Yes they do make a difference. I wear thin lycra oversocks at this time of year and add neoprene over shoes when the temp goes below 5c. I did a few very long and very cold rides at the start of the year and had no problems with my feet being cold.

Just wondering if your feet got so cold because there wasn't any room in your shoes for air to circulate? Unless you have Reynaud's it's a bit early for depth of winter measures. And if you do have Reynaud's then winter boots will help more than overshoes.

I do suffer with a mild form of Reynaud's in my fingers but never had problems with my feet.

The northwave shoes I use have air vents in the sole and after a bit of googling
I am going to try tape over the vents , the temp on my garmin shows 7°c average for this mornings ride
