Take a look at these if its a real problem...they have a 3 hour heat capacity, so would manage both trips each day

Look interesting but couldn't work out from the ad - Where do you put the batteries and how many, how long is the wire, and do you need a separate battery pack for each hand?

I have some Thinsulate branded gloves which work quite well, and often wear padded mitts or gloves inside them (Altura ones). That seems to work, except in fog and then I always feel as if I'm riding naked - it's lazy stuff which can't be bothered to go round so goes straight through me instead!

For my feet I bought some skiing thermal socks. They were great unless they got wet. Still warm then but very uncomfortable. Past tense because they fell to pieces at the end of last winter and I threw them away. Must get some new ones before it gets really cold.

Hope you find a solution soon. I never used to have a problem until I was about 35, I used to warm up after about 5 mins riding. I suppose circulation gets worse with age.

My fingers are always cold no matter where I'm in.
ie, in the office, where the temperature of (fingers) everyone elese is around 33°C, and mine are only 20°C, but my body is warm and I seems to have greater resistance to cold that most people. I still have my window open in my bed room 24/7 with no heating.

The only problems are my fingers and toes.....

Just wondering, do you smoke?

Because smoking can affect the circulation of blood to your extremities.

Do you have webbed feet and can you breath underwater?

I bought my Dad a pair of gloves like these, although his ones use a D battery. You do have a separate battery pack for each glove (otherwise you'd have gloves attached by a wire, sort of like the way my gloves were attached by string through the back of my coat as a child.)

You can see on the image of the ad that there's a little pocket (velcros over by the wrist section) which is where the batteries go. The wires are very short and will be in that little pocket too along with a plastic strip for the batteries to attach to. That price looks expensive though. I think eBay have cheaper ones.

I've just bought myself a battery heated body-warmer as this morning was just torture! That was £16.95 including postage.

Didn't enjoy cycling in thick fog one little bit ;).

Not even when your lights made a great long beam like a prison camp search light cutting through the fog...I was whistling the theme tune to the great escape all the way! (and shivering in time to the beat:sad:) Man the fog is cold!!

They really did! I could see the beam all the way along to the end of my garden! I enjoyed that! I'm not normally so negative and can usually come up with a positive spin like you did this morning Jonny, so thank you for the push in the right direction there.

Shivering that bad is an experience! I went over a few potholes and the juddering just seemed to "even me out"! ;)

I've ordered the heated body warmer too now so once that arrives and I've worn it a few times I'll post up how effective it is. I'm a real wimp in the cold so if it gets my thumbs up it'll be a valid recommendation!

It might be worth getting some gloves made by people in Scandanavia or Canada or somewhere where extreme weather is more normal. I have Louis Garneau Typhoon gloves for the winter, which are split mitts with several layers. It has not been cold enough for me to use them yet (and it's been below zero)!

My Aldi/Lidl can't think which one they are from winter gloves are a lot warmer than the £25 Endura Strike Winter gloves I had for my Birthday.

There are some soft tarts here. Its not cold enough yet to worry about warm gloves etc yet - today was the first frosty one, but Altura Nightvision windproofs were plenty. When it gets seriously cold, silk liners (about £12 from Tiso or similar) make an astonishing difference, without bulk.
Now get a grip...
