I don't have a long commute (15 minutes max). I was actually pretty warm (except for my hands). I did know that was my weak point though. I have run all winter but this is the first time I've tried to bike all winter. I only had a pair of thermal tights with bike shorts overtop, a thermal hoodie, a pair of merino socks, a merino beanie, a high viz jacket, and my running gloves.

I didn't have to worry about ice. The city had laid out plenty of road salt, so the roads were pretty bare and the 2 ice patches that I did see were all broken up. It's supposed to warm up a bit in the next couple of days. It was a good dress rehearsal though for the rest of the winter. The next dress rehearsal I want to see if I can do is a large dumping of snow. We usually get our first major snowstorm in December (>10 cm), so it should be on it's way.

I do have to admit I was doing a little day dreaming of global warming on the ride though. On the 'hard core' side, I was the only person parked in the security bike locker last night. ;)
