What about "Hey, little lady. I noticed your lights are on the wrong way. Why don't I fix them for you, so you don't have to worry your pretty little head about it and can go about your business of baking and applying makeup".

Or maybe "Hey, just noticed your lights are on the wrong way round on your bike".

Here for rides.
No one, least of all the boys in blue, gives a monkey's about pedal reflectors.

As to the OP. Forget the bike is owned by a member of the opposite sex and deal with it accordingly.

I would leave her to it, some people take "advice" badly.

I take it it's blinky LED's and she wont be riding on unlit lanes but in town.

She will get seen either way round and if the police pick her up about it I doubt it's going to end up as anything other than words of advice, the reflectors that many of us are festooned with kick back intense white light to the rear of the bike but for some reason we have a spaz when we see a set of cheap blinky lights on the wrong way round.

Just ask her why. It's not like it's difficult to get right, after all. You don't need an advanced knowledge of the highway code or UK transport law to know that white lights go on the front and red ones on the back.

Perhaps she just prefers back-pedalling... [IGMC]

most lights come with instructions on fitting , i thought it was us men who didnt read instructions

I dunno if I've ever read instructions on fitting beyond how to attach the mounts. I'm not sure they include the blindingly obvious....

I have a colleague at work, who I don't see much as she is in another department cycles in. I have noticed on her bike that she has installed some lights. While it is highly commendable, there is a slight problem. The red lamps are on the front and the white one is on the rear. Which is technically illegal, however I am in no position myself to preach about lighting regulations due to the non-existent pedal reflectors.

I am probably going to answer my own question, seeing it when I go in is bugging me and I really want to say something. I will probably use the s*** sandwich by commending her that she has lights, then mentioning that they are the wrong way around and that she could get ticketed for it, not to mention that it is potentially dangerous.

Not too long ago as I was riding home from my favorite pizza joint I saw a person riding up ahead of me and on the multi/shared use path (I was in the road) who had a white light hanging from their backpack. When I caught up to them, I wasn't going out of my way to do so just riding at my normal speed.

I mentioned to them that while it's good that they had a light on their backpack that they needed to have a red light in the back and a white light in the front, while reinforcing that at least they were trying and that that in and of itself was a good thing. They thanked me for the advice and maintaining my pace I was able to leave them behind without really trying, hence my riding the street instead of the multi/shared use path.

It'd be nice if more people would at least make an effort to have some sort of light on their bike. And I would hope that if a LEO saw them that they would do the same that I did and not issue them a ticket, unless they're encountered again on the road riding the same way.

Likewise, if while I'm out riding if I see someone who is either riding in the door zone, or too close to the curb/kerb, I'll pull alongside of them and say "just a friendly bit of advice but don't ride so close to parked cars or the curb/kerb." And I'll explain why if they ask.

I do know a gal here where I live who is more confrontational about it. As she's been known to chase people down, it doesn't matter if they're in a car, on a bike, or on foot she'll chase them down. She's also been known to go toe-to-toe with LEO's who have issued her tickets, as well as in court with the judge.
