Collections at work - yay or nay?

I would guess that out of 350 people there probably is a fair proportion that agree with you but haven't had the balls to say so.

I spent 25 years in the same job contributing to these damn presents, and when I left due to ill health they bought me a book on a subject that I had no interest in. I must have contributed 50-60 times its value over the years. Its value was equivalemt to everybody in the workplace chipping in 25p, mean bastards!

So when I recovered and got a new job I was a lot more circumspect about giving at all and a lot meaner in how much I gave.

At my last proper job they would have had to hold me down and take the pickings out of my nose by force. Where I am now I would only contribute for those we sit by the lake drinking tea with, which is everone on the site plus a few of the higher-ups from the offices.

I f I know and have worked with the person the collection is for I'll contribute, if I don't know them I wont, where I work now I've said no a couple of times and they've stopped asking.

I'm about to leave CC. I can reply with details of my bank account to which you can send your over-generous contributions if you send me a PM. Thank you all in advance. Bless.

When I worked at a large electric & gas supply company, I put in to a couple of whip-arounds for people leaving. One was off to university at the age of 50. I had worked with him for 2 years & we got him a book voucher for his studies, about £100 worth, he was popular. Sadly he didn't make it to Uni, he died of a brain hemorrhage 2 days later. Lovely chap.
The second was a lassie going self employed and we bought her a voucher for EWS or Sally's. She was off to be a beautician.
When I left they had a whip-around too, as I was going off to be self employed. I was hoping for a nice helpful voucher and the lass in charge of the pressie buying went to Clinton's Cards got me a giant fluffy bunny  Not sure why. Maybe she thought that I was going to be 7 or something. I gave it to a friends child but was quite tempted to leave it on my chair at the desk I no longer worked at. It was nearly 2' tall, I had real issues getting it to ride pillion on my old Kwak.

The rule of whip-arounds in the office was only ask on the teams that worked together and others that the 'leaver' knew. I said 'no' to a couple of them as I had absolutely no idea who the person was and they worked on a different floor. No-one was offended if someone said 'no'

Here for rides.
Always contribute to the leaving/impending baby collections/etc., of those I manage, and those whom they manage in their turn and so on. Don't contribute to collections of people I've not worked directly with but will sign the card.

Don't like signing birthdays cards though.
