Right, off to Dolan I go in February when the 'window' opens for our scheme.

My last company had a cycle-to-work scheme from a third party provider that appeared to allow you to buy a uncycle on the scheme, which I thought was a bit strange until:

1. I encountered someone clearly commuting (backpack, making good progress) on a unicycle.
2. When I tried to buy one through the provider, I noticed that the Cycle-to-work scheme could not be applied.

Am sure my "salary for pension purposes" reduces with any flexible benefits taken. It did with a previous employer anyway.

My pension pays out based on my highest salary in the final three years of work. They have changed the pension scheme now so that any elements after 21st March 2022 are carer average so salary sacrifice would impact now on the new part.

Its a contributions factor as well I believe, any reduction in your wage (due to a deductable like this) would also mean a reduction in employer contributions so a double hit on whats being paid in.

In the NHS it was simply. Just don’t get involved in any salary sacrifice schemes in you final few years of working.

The new CARE scheme, however, is a career average system so any salary sacrifice will impact that. I have not taken any salary sacrifice options since being forced into the CARE scheme and my final salary part is protected.
