But I only watched him on TV yesterday!

The story teller from The Princess Pride also, so many other things.

Always thought Columbo was a pile of badly made shite..

I liked it, but it was always spoiled for me by the fact that they showed you who the murderer was - bad show for a detective show in my book.

THAT SAID, it said in the news that he started it in 1970/71, but there were one or two Pilots before that in about 1968, and one of my favourites was either the first or the second where Columbo was investigating a Doctor who had killed his wife, but was supposedly on holiday at the time.
The conversations the two of them had were quite good to watch as, of course, Columbo knew he was the murderer, but they just continued having an intellectual conversation with the Doctor seemingly waiting for Columbo to trip him up but, not giving him any help at all. Verbal Tennis as it were.

Funnily enough I rather liked that aspect of it. One thing about the Sherlock Holmes stories is the way they alway treat the solving of the crime as a done and dusted process whereas in fact with the trial to come it's never as simple as that. Although obviously Holmes would be able to tie any defence council into knots and eat them for breakfast.

I really liked Columbo as a kid but went off it, maybe because it was always on. Some other cop shows have stood the test of time, like Rockford Files and Kojak - only my opinion of course (which is unquestionable!)

John Cassavetes alaways seemed to be there as well. Falk and Cassavetes in one show - cool as chuff! :becool:

A quick google leads me to this must have poster!

Barnet,
Sunday afternoon in the early 70's were not complete without either Columbo or Weaver, Low budget but entertaining all the same. Peter Falk was actually a very good actor who had two nominations for oscars in the early 60's. Another piece of my teenage years gone.
