He had such a tough, restrictive and abusive childhood that I think he has always wanted to do and wear the opposite of what people think he should, you clearly being one of them.

Puerile and so on, maybe at times, but he never stays on a subject long enough and I would rather have him than someone who simply churns out a pre-prepared routine, especially when you hear them doing *exactly* the same jokes on more than one programme

When he dies, Glasgow will practically give him a state funeral!
Coming from a Scots family I was brought up on Billy Connolly and Stanley Baxter. Billy was from the same place as a lot of scots and his humour reflected that. I honestly believe he is/was a very funny man.

Mind, Jethro isn't forgotten in the South West - every time I've ever been there, his posters, DVDs &c are all over the place, like he's some sort of Cornish Enver Hoxha.

Is Richard Herring widely remembered?
I've followed his post "This Morning With Richard Not Judy" stuff, and so he's not faded from my consciousness - it occurred to me that to others, his appeal might be more exclusive these days though.

He has a weekly column in the Metro newspaper too, which can be very funny. In fact, that was the first time I'd heard of him so I looked up some of his other stuff (Hitler Moustache and Christ on a Bike), which I didn't enjoy; I do like his podcast stuff though.
In the early days 1980s)....before he got so openly crude.....I thought he was very good.
I wouldnt have in on my TV now.

He still has a loyal following but not the mainstream success (ie BBC series) that Stewart Lee has. I saw him on his last tour and was surprised that the theatre wasn't full. His Leicester Square Theatre podcast is excellent.
