do you think that NI pays for the NHS

do you think Stamp Duty pays for Stamps

do you think Insurance Tax pays for Insurance

do you think Fuel Duty pays for fuel

do you think Inheritance Tax pays for Inheritances

Well actually I think what he wrote is true -well to an extent. All things equal in your life except your bicycle and a person with a car, they are being taxed more. However:

i. it is often the car driver's choice to use their car and pay the subsequent taxes, not yours. You choose to use a zero emission vehicle. You are effectively choosing to pay less tax, what's wrong with that? I'm sure some car drivers could do it sometimes if they wanted to.
ii. You could argue that the health gains by bicycling produce less of a burden on the NHS -something you pay your taxes for! You are more than likely subsidizing health care for some of those car drivers!
iii. if you own a car, you pay tax too. Perhaps you should also be out driving clogging up the roads and causing more wear and tear too?

Paying VED (vehicle excise duty) doesn't justify "owning" the roads, nor running non-tax payers off the roads, and it definitely doesn't confer any extra rights on drivers.

yes it was'nt all that good a clip, maybe the guy decided to comment on that instead of this one:

because of the reaction it would get. Not sure how he found the clip ie, what he was searching for when it came up. Road tax is high as is a bloomin TV license. If someone wants to own a car and pay it, that is upto them. what is wrong is saying cyclists are'nt allowed to use the roads becuase we don't pay for a license.

income tax is by far and away the greatest tax we pay

you'd have to earn piss all more thanva driver to be paying more toward roads than he is

No it isn't.

Motoring taxes do not pay directly or specifically for roads.
Cyclists are not exempt from any tax that motorists also pay.
All taxpayers pay for roads.
The right to use the roads does not depend on how much tax you pay.
And finally:
Cyclists pay more tax overall, and therefore more towards the roads (and everything else besides) than non-cyclists, because cyclists are usually middle-to-high earners. Low-waged and no-waged people are more likely to own a car than a bike.
