Came home tonight and it was lashing it down. One thing i noticed was car drivers gave me much more room when overtaking and waited longer at junctions letting me pass before moving out.

I wonder if that's out of sympathy or they just can't see properly and hesitate? I know one thing - it's a sight more frantic in the summer!

I find the opposite, when it's lashing down Swindon's drivers seem to go a little crazy.

God, lucky you.

Round here, the impatience and idiocy increase when it rains - as if they think their cars will rust away if they don't drive as quick as possible.

I also find the opposite.

Drivers around Horsham I've found (in the month I've been here), pretty good when it comes to letting me carry out right-hand turns and letting me across on busy dual carriage ways. Not so good when it comes to the amount of space I get. But better than they were in Aldershot where franky there was a video-worthy event at least once a week.

But the other night when it was lashing it down was totally different. Despite waving my right-arm around like a loony they'd just overtake anyway, who cares if I'm turning right, right now, had half a dozen passes way too close, people pull out on roundabouts when I don't think they would normally etc.

Should really do an objective study on it now winters coming up.

Interesting to hear I may be in the minority then. I've had a bit of abuse from people for no other reason than they found it hilarious shouting at a cyclist.
Some numbskulls in this town I tell you!
The commute in tonight had me coughing due to the smoke from fireworks.

I found out why you don't overtake near the zig-zag crossings the other day, I always thought it was just for pedestrian safety! Dark & lashing down with rain, I was overtaken and the lights went to amber for the crossing, overtaking car slammed on the anchors, so I had to, I went sliding down the road without anywhere to go.

I wonder if we could correlate the luminescence of ones self with the width of room given
Could make out for an interesting analysis - the problem is that if proven true we would become Blackpool illuminations on wheels and it would cost the world in rechargers and batteries!
Think of the landfills!

I doubt it, i'm lit up like a christmas tree in winter and some drivers only see you (if at all) at the very last second.
They are just not looking for a cyclist. I actually think they look through me at the vehicles behind
