In my dream, the perps would have to be forced to cycle at high speed -without ducking, mind you -at their own creation.

Then take away their phones so they couldn't call for assistance..... sigh..... I'm not vindictive, but wouldn't it be interesting if you could do this?

I just can't believe someone would string something across a path -it defies belief. I really wouldn't be against a life term for that one or for what I just wrote above either.

I think stringing up wire in the attempt to catch cyclists should carry an equal punishment to dropping bricks from motorway bridges.

I doubt it works like that though

On a slightly different note, I was once riding back home out of portsmouth late at night and there were two lads standing on each side of the street, doing the invisible rope trick and causing cars to brake and skid wildly.

Of course, they thought it was a right laugh until they did it to the wrong guy ... he go out of the car, stormed up to one of the little sh*ts (who was dumb enough to stand there taunting him), and just lamped him clean out, got back in the car and drove off!

I was tempted to do a Simpson's Nelson style "Ha ha!" as I went past!

And no, I didn't stop, the little twat deserved it!

Just been out on the MTB nearly all off road. Up Werneth Low, then back via the TPT. Saw a fox and two MTBers. Thought WTF when I flew round a bend to face 4 bright lights vs my one.

Nasty story, but I wouldn't stop cycling at night because of it. I've faced a fair few 'close shaves' in London - but enough to notice that you can't live your life worrying about what could happen....just be aware of the potential dangers.

Cycling at night can be very rewarding. Keep cycling ;)

I wonder whether the frequency of such incidents has increased since Matthew Parris advocated this method of killing cyclists in his Times column?

I've come across something similar before - A piece of rope strung between 2 lamp posts - Although it didn't pose much harm due to the terrible quality of the "Knots" they had "Tied".
