For the last few weeks, I've looked forward to seeing my bruv-in law on his scooter on the old kent road...he's on a temporary posting in Southwark... until today.

Other than that I see the same riders often.

I do see a fair few people that I know and wave to or chat to but not in any patter...or cycle

(you see what I did there?)

I recognise about 40+ cyclists on my commute and greet about 3/4 of them.

I only remember one car, a blue saxo on the school run because the driver is impatient and boorish.

Do you and Gaz still see the guy in the american football helmet? Just remembered him from when I first started watching these cycling videos.

I last chatted to him about 4 months ago, but I have not seen him since. It's strange how commuters come and go - house move, job change, different working pattern etc and then they are gone! I'm getting misty eyed remembering some of my old favourites who have vanished...

A woman in a Toyota nearly wiped me out into a skip yesterday. I gave a non-threatening 'more room' hand-signal. Today I saw her in the exact same place, and she gave me loads of room.

I think it could be the start of something beautiful.

Good call that cyclist!

Most would stick a finger or two up and I imagine that would not have had the same effect on her driving.

It is also to be hoped that other cyclists will benefit from your sensible reaction: chapeau!

PS What is the "more room" signal?

I have a very rural commute, once off the main drag, little traffic but plenty of wildlife.

See the 'hard man' runner most mornings, shorts and t shirt even the winter and the evening lady runner, very easy on the eye indeed. Salutations always exchanged.

One other commuter, started seeing him a couple of mornings a week in the spring a very big lad on a BSO, 4 days a week during the summer, 3 days this week now just a big lad riding on a hybrid.

Anyone ever met their familiars when not cycling? Was in pub the other week and got a cheery hello from a couple sat in the corner. Was on my mind for ages but couldn't work out who they were until on my regular commute I got a wave from them as they made their regular early morning walk to work. Couldn't believe that I didn't recognise them when not on the bike (we normally exchange a hello most mornings)!
