It's getting really hot. And next week, it's getting hotter, rising to thirty (in London, anyway). Setting off in the morning is fine, but riding home at six I can really feel the heat.

Water, obviously. But what other precautions do you take when cycling in hot weather?

Make sure you put the beer in the fridge good and early. Preferably the night before.

I don't drink it affects my finely tuned body.

Too much of a habit for me...as soon as my days off I would binge which was not good.

So doing it on my days off meant I wasn't recovering. When I got that stinking cold last December which took almost a month to recover from I didn't drink through the whole of Christmas for the first time in a very long time.I may drink on holiday but plan not to drink when I am back home.

Im a bit nervous as I dont want to fall into my old bad ways.

Can't say I miss it because I don't.

Im still up as late as before but I drink tea all night, also my sleeping pattern has improved immensly.

I cut right back a few months ago, after the first month it's quite easy and you really appreciate the ones you have, you become normal rather tha chucking them down

I'm going to try to cut back. I drink a lot of red wine, every day. Really hurts on the commutes the following morning too.

Not sure about going cold turkey though.

I thought cotton was good material for hot conditions because it traps the moisture so when it evaporates it cools you down as it is still next to the skin.

When you go mountaineering (or cold weather cycling) you are advised to have wicking material so that moisture moves away from the skin before evaporating..?

I guess cycling half-naked is the ideal case if you are brave enough and get lots of sun protection from cream. Nice with all those bugs stuck to your pecs though!
