I have a friend who drives trains for Southern. He never drinks the day before a shift.

Too dodgy.Trouble with our job is we have to be careful when we drink so when we or (I) got the chance I used to binge, but it's not really good is it?

Still off it.May drink on holiday but that's about it.;)

much to the amusement of the girl i share an office with, i have found my one and only pair of shorts, not cycling shorts tho.

I don't really have a problem with this weather,I seem to find my cycling performance is enhanced as opposed to the cold weather when im sluggish.I really must carry a bottle of water around though.

I see the press are milking it a bit.Im sure it's hotter in Bangkok say like all the time.I suppose it would be classed as a heatwave if it was over 100 for a bit of a time.

Yeah it's 77 degrees at the lowest and 95 at the highest at the moment there.

Jim - you are crackers....

I've been getting changed in front of the big desk fan I use for drying my kit (I have my own office)....

On arriving home, grab a shower, back out, then start pouring in sweat ...argh !

Most are not fortunate enough to have a fan or an office. Most have to do without a shower unit and swill down at a wash basin.
Another trick. Fill the wash basin with cold water and submerge both wrists until the water has warmed up - 10 mins or so. Then wash down.

After you have showered IMMEDIATELY after riding, and you perspire heavily WHEN you have dried completely with a towel ( note 'dried completely' cus this is a mistake ) you probably have a full bladder, or bowel, or both. Go and sit on the loo with your legs wet.
That will do the trick.

LOL, I must confess I have started using paper towels soaked in water first before using my baby wipes. It's quite refreshing in this weather.
This morning I actually got my sandals out and cycled in on the hybrid as it has double sided pedals. It was very pleasant to have a breeze through your toes. I must look into getting some SPD sandals.

I don't tend to use suncream unless I'm going for a long cycle, for my 4 mile commute (8 mile round trip), it seems a bit pointless slapping on the suncream, the only time I've burnt cycling was when we're out most of the day in it.

I definitely carry a bottle of water (even though in this water it tends to practically boil). Never normally drink on my commute as it's too short, but going home the last couple of times I've really felt quite thirsty so have had to take a few swigs.

Now you mention it, will have to look into getting some sandal-type things. Problem with the weather, like with the spiked tyres in winter, by the time you actually get to buying something it's all changed again.

I've avoided, as much as possible, any trips on the bike to other sites - some of Jim's tips are brill though......hands/wrists in a basin......I'll try that.

I used this stuff when I pitched baseball. On my arm, but it could also be used for cyclists on the legs.

While in the States, I did a couple of weeks doing HET ( High Environmental Temperatures ) in Death Valley and Pheonix.

The afternoon temperatures were closing in on 45 C.

The temperatures we are feeling this afternoon here were mid-morning and dusk temps.

One could leave a frying pan out in the sun for a couple of hours after mid day, crack an egg in it, stir it round and the egg would cook.
