I voted the car.

My commute is heavily urban with lots of queuing and stationery traffic. When I was driving I hated it.

Although cycling demands a lot of attention, it's far less stressful than the stop start nature of driving. Plus I can filter and shoot past them all.

I find any driving in a car nowadays a stressfull experience due to the amount of cocks out there who don't give a toss who is on the road.Even when i have the kids on board and people must see bobbing heads in the rear i can still guarentee to get some pratt wanting to see whats in my boot !

Hmmm.... I don't find the bus stressful, but it's not pleasant to stand waiting for busses in cold/wet/windy conditions.
Equally, anywhere where you don't get a seat is annoying, given a seat you can read or whatever.
Driving, you can't read (duh) and are usually stuck in traffic. So driving is my worst.

Stress is something you create as an individual, especially commuting in London, there's rarely any time pressure, so it's just about getting there. And for the most part we put our heads down and just get on with it... it really isn't worth worrying about, you get there when you get there.

I've put train, although in my case it's the tube, fortunately with no changes, so you just sit there and do your stir... but it really is an unpleasant experience for the points already made.

The stress of riding to work and trying to stay alive is so much more enjoyable. The next couple of months are going to be awful while I build my mileage up again.

Really isn't this poll about the least stressful method of travelling? Being a cycling forum it is always going to be cycling ......... everything else will be stressful.

Perhaps people should rather look inwards to find their inner calm making them more at peace with all aspects of life?

Change the word "commute" to "travel" and I expect you'd get a totally different answer from most people.

I hate commuting by car, but I totally enjoy driving my car and especially enjoy long journeys that have no time expectation and are just for fun. (Am planning a round-eurpoe run with some friends next spring) I guess it depends on your car, but I'd rather cycle or take the motorbike into town any day.

Very true. I enjoy driving, but not on my commute. I also lve the train, but again, not for commuting. The bus....actually, I'm not a big fan of buses at any time.

I find busses horribly stressful, although that may be because to get anywhere in Bristol that isn't the city centre, you'll probably have to spend about £8 and spend between 1 and a half to 3 hours sat on a bus.

I've never commuted by car, though had the occasional lift, so for me it would be by train. Because the rare occasions I'm using it I'm probably going somewhere with a bit of a deadline, though equally I can remember in a previous job I used to have to go to Barnstaple by train - and that was one of my favourite commutes, trundling slowly through the countryside.

Tram is the worst, full of unsociable people that just push past you all the time. not much different from the train/tube/bus but none the less that is the worst for me.

i have to come clean.

my car commute isn't that bad ...

found a cut thru that minimizes the 'worst case' , but my 'half commute' and 4miles off road / 3 miles in town cycling is far more fun

( thing is, driving/cycling has an advantage over public transport,, my liver is the better for it  )

I guess I'm lucky that my commute is pretty stress free no matter what the means;

train and bike is the usual - the train bit is short and reliable, I can claim the cost and the cycle bit is fine if a little uninspiring.
bike only is great - 25 miles of fine Hants countryside but only for days when Bolletta is going to a friends after school, so it stays a treat.
car - only on rare occasions when I'm going on somewhere after work. No traffic problems.

Anyone remember the Viz character 'Spawny Get'?

I think over the years I have had every conceivable train delay possible (and non conceivable ones too). Horrible vile unsocial commuters coughing, sneezing, spitting, shouting into mobiles (yes, we hear you every single fekking day say you are pulling into the fekken station), People playing music through their mobiles whilst everyone just tut's and says nothing to the scrotes. Putting feet on seats. Putting bags on seats and showing annoyance if someone want's to sit there. Moaning because someone dares to open a window for a little bit of bloody fresh air. Sitting on a damp piss stained or chewing gum covered seat. Hair gel covered windows. Carriages stinking of greasy burgers and/or puke. Having to wade through enough discarded free newspapers to wallpaper a friggin house.
Late response, maybe, but I always wanted to see every single objection I have to public transport in one succinct paragraph. There are probably more, but I can't add to that.

THANK YOU!
