Even with my surgery issues, I only took the car to work less than 10 times during the year, most within the last couple of months.

Hope to be much better by 6th Jan to return on the bike, well even if I am not OK i at least know the pain in my bits and bobs is from scar tissue and not something sinister, so it will just have to hurt ! Grrr.

Getting cabin fever now. Been off the bike 3 weeks. At least the weather is crap. If it improves I'll get a sneaky ride out for an hour as I am off work till the 6th.

Its only 4 and half miles, so 9 miles each day. most mornings I go the longer way round and do around 6 to 7 miles, and the same on the way home.(if its cold or raining I go direct to work)

9 miles is much better than none at all! Due to the bike I have at the moment, as well as the weather, I tend to only cycle when I am stationed much closer to work, which is 3 miles each way; only small but better than nothing! Saves me the parking fee straight off as well as the other costs associated with running a car for such a small distance.

I only use the car when I'm a little further out from work - not for long though - waiting until I have my new shiny road bike in my hands! I don't know how far I'd be willing to try and haul the old, heavy mountain bike for.

My commutes to work are highly visible from the graphing below - 13.6 miles. As you can see I don't really do that much cycling other than commuting. A quick filter on the statistics suggests I commuted 174 times in 2013. Quickest was on 23/07, with details here.

I just worked out that I cycled to work 165 times during 2013, and I only started counting on February 26th. I worked out that I could have cycled a potential of 187 times, so I don't think that is bad. Even better, I worked out that I saved £3 a day each of those 165 days by not catching the bus, so I saved £495 :girldance:

Never mind all this minutiae, here are the broad strokes:

2013 cycle commuting:
Weight lost: 28lbs
Money saved: ~ £1,200
Days sickness/absence: nil
Pleasure had: Off the scale

I commuted by bike 144 times, by car about 15 and by train twice.

The car was only used for shifting large amounts or if I had very long distance multi-site visits.
