I am happy for there to be lots of programmes on that I don't like as long as I can find enough programmes that I do, which I can!

I go through the TV guide in advance and set my Freesat PVR to record the things that I want to watch and build up a library for future viewing. That way, I never feel the need to complain about there being 'nothing on worth watching'. I also never have to watch adverts ...

Daytime TV?
The return of BBC One's The Great British Bake Off attracted 9.3 million viewers - more than two million up on last year's opening episode. [...] Last year saw the series move from BBC Two to One... A record 12.3 million viewers watched Nancy Birtwhistle win the final.

The opening episode in 2014 was watched by 7.2 million people, while the previous year's premiere was seen by 5.6 million.

Last night 43% of all TV viewers were watching Bake Off, with a peak viewing figure of 10 million at 20:50 BST. The overnight figures are likely to rise once the consolidated figures are released, which add views from time-shifted and catch-up services.

I sneered until my mother came to stay for a week and roped us in to watching it, and we were hooked by the end of the hour. I enjoy it and I've tried some of the ideas and preparation tricks. Admittedly, only to make inedible wholegrain building materials for the toddler to play stacking games with xx(

I've decided I quite like it because it features real people. Hell will still freeze over before I watch celebriteez dancing, skating, baking or doing anything else aimed at reviving a flagging career.

I enjoy it, for both the information and ideas to try. I'd rather watch that than Eastenders or other programs that are on at that time of day.

I don't mind cooking shows and have enjoyed stuff like masterchef and great british menu in the past but have lost interest over time as many go down the rabbit hole of 'reality tv' to contrive suspense and drama. The exaggerated pauses before announcing results and stuff.

I know there was a right brouhaha last year about someone's icecream being removed from a freezer or something. It made the front page of the newspapers.

Listening to a radio 4 food programme podcast recently they were interviewing a chef about his life & career and he said his problem with the 'competitive' cookery shows is that it seems to be more about the failures and the losing than celebrating the achievements etc... Which I tend to agree with. Not saying gbbo does it necessarily though icecreamgate last year is a good example, but certainly a common theme with many of these types of shows. We seem to crave watching people fail and call it entertainment....

I am a fan of certain cookery shows and enjoy cooking and baking when I can be arsed.
I can't however, stand poncy cooking or pretentious food. Give me good basic food cooked well anyday
