Today was an alright day for cycling, minus the one WVM that thought it was ok to tailgate me, then overtake with less than 1ft of room (I could have balanced on his roof), then cutting in far too soon, then slowing down... To me it sounds like a punishment pass but I'm not one to judge what was going through his mind...

Now I want to report him to the local constabulary, but there's only an 0845 number, and I aren't paying money to report a bad driver, who *may* have a PCSO coming round for a word (there was no collision, I doubt they'll be interested, but I feel like this needs reporting).

Long story short, does anyone have a direct number for the police station in York? If not I'll just drop by en route from work tomorrow (it's a 2 mile round trip from work, and it's not amazing roads).

I should probably add, that a quarter mile up the road he turned left into one of the sideroads... The move got him there maybe 10 seconds in front of me. I was tempted to have a word but there were no witnesses down there should he get out and assault me.

Thanks

As someone who in the past used one of those camera's I know they was extremely close to you when they cut back in.

Damn. The met have a single non emergency number: I had hoped it would be nationwide.

(it's pretty sensible. Campaign was something like "Being burgled: call 999. Been burgled: call 0300 123 1212" And 03 numbers a geographical, like 01 and 02)

Police certainly shouldn't be charging for calls. A good forbid you should want to call from a mobile

Glad you're safe. When I see that sort of homicidal driving, and know I'm relying on an angry man's judgement, it's scares the bejesus out of me.

They are, I've tried all of the numbers they list (01904 is York, but I've also tried Northallerton and Scarborough among others to no avail)

Because of the rain I decided that it's a bad idea to go after work today, so I'm putting it off while tomorrow

In the end I went into the police station yesterday after work (it was a nice day and I had an early finish) they're giving the bloke a talking to so hopefully I won't have any trouble next time I come across him.

Just for the record I keep the Police non urgent phone number in my mobile phone book it is 0845 6060247.

The last two occasions I used this number were to report a loose horse charging around at Monks Cross P&R near York & to complain about a motorist who reversed out of a car park bay whilst on a mobile phone in Easingwold. I saw the car coming but the driver didn't see me at all, then the driver had the temerity to get out of the car and asked me why I was making a note of the car number. Never did find out what happened to that one. The horse? - The police were there in minutes.

Already had it, but as I said, having to pay to report a crime isn't on the cards

I had to deal with a tailgater today myself. Fortunately here in Florida it is legal to ride on the sidewalk/pavement. So as I'm watching my rearview mirror I am also watching where I am going, and planning and updating my exit plan as I go. So I signal and transition onto the sidewalk/pavement.

Now, please do not get me wrong. Under normal/ideal circumstances I do not support riding on the sidewalk/pavement, BUT when my a$$ is on the line you can be damned sure that I will (if there is one present) move onto the sidewalk/pavement.

Sadly, there are asshats like that all over the world. And your not alone it also scares the bejesus out of me, as well as I think anyone with half an ounce of self preservation.

It's amazing how clueless some people can be.

always mention section 59 police reform act (asbo for vehicles) i have south Yorkshire police non emergency number on my phone, i use it where ever i am and they are happy to pass the report to how ever it should go to.
when i get a call back from the relevant area, so far they have all said i have the option of going to court ect or just making a intelligent report, this is when i mention section 59 and point out that this is being used with car/ van drivers, throwing, spiting, deliberate near passes ect as this is antisocial behaviour.
all it needs is a complaint from a member of the public, that the vehicle is being used in a manner to course distress, one is on its way to a nasty piece of work in Huddersfield --(well known to the police)-- how came extremely close to killing me just so his passenger could throw a drink at me! the back wheel of his 7.5 ton lorry 1" of hitting my right front wheel. any reports of anti social behaver involving his vehicle whether he is driving or not and it gets confiscated and crushed.

people how do things like this tend to have something to hid re insurance, warrants, illegal activity, so flagging them up to the police helps point to them as needing a good look at, so you could say when drivers do this kind of thing they are waving a flag and shouting i am up to no good, the more "car asbo's" are handed out the more the word will spread, so report and ask.

You seem very close to the ground, sort of like a penguin on a skate board. What were you doing?
It's mounted on my front reflector bracket. I don't wear a helmet and as such, have nothing other than stem, handlebars or that to mount it on... I will be getting a rear camera to mount on my panniers soonish.

I doubt that I'd have had enough swing to safely mount the kerb, if I had there wouldn't be a problem
