Ok, I know this is gonna be like, how long is a piece of string BUT, I'm laid up with man flu, looking at new bikes to cheer myself up

Yesterday I found out that in my knee alone, I have a stage 3 MCL Tear and a Stage 1 ACL Tear, caused when the van hit me in July, now, I knew I was suffering but DAMN !!!!!!! They are also doing checks on my back too as that doesn't look ideal.

My question therefore is this (To any PI Sols on here, or anyone who has suffered the same)

Whats the ball park figure for a Stage 3 MCL and Stage 1 ACL that insurance company's normally pay out ?

Should I be looking at a Trek Madone Dura Ace ? Or a Raleigh Pursuit ? :-)

Thanks in Advance

God knows............... ?

I'm not even at the stage of working out compensation - two years on, as I face at least one operation, and possibly a second depending upon how troublesome my shoulder remains (two bits need sorting)...

Things can get complicated, or indeed heal up OK. So....just hang in until you are mended !

my accident a few years ago resulted in a broken acronimum (itsy bone on the point of the shoulder and meant wearing a sling for a week or two, plus a lot of brusing and bashing to the torso and a very scraped arm and a still stiff neck although that was officially cured by physio

I got £6.5k in damages plus costs and a new bike

I think it's about the time and pain and disruption to your normal life as much as actual injuries, a proper PI lawyer should know how to properly claim on that score

You won't really know until you are better. If it's a quick recovery, then less compensation. Normal muscle/tissue damage is usually expected to heal within 12 months maximum.

I assume you've had an MRI scan and results. Also expect there now to be a battle about 'if' the injuries were caused by the accident - you'll have to see an independent consultant, and expect this to take ages to get a report.

Mine has all gone back to square one, as the independent guy read my scans and assumed I had arthritis in shoulder now, seeing my consultant (i.e. the head honcho - not an associate) confirmed that all men over 28 have arthritis in their shoulders, so the MRI proved nothing - the on going pain in my are is due to compression of the muscles and tendons in the shoulder (causing painful clunks) asd damage to my a/c joint (sore acromium if I touch it) - so that's all got to go back to the independent bloke for his 'new' opinion..... The good thing is I've had it confirmed I need one and possibly two operations - doesn't want to do my acromium as it can destabilise my shoulder. I also had back trouble for a year....

So, be prepared for a long wait until you are better.

Well I have been paid out for my bike and have an offer for my clothes so, I guess I just need to sit tight and keep dreaming about Carbon for a couple of years then ....

I got paid out for the bike 'bits' within 6 weeks, then got half my physio paid within about 4 months. Still have £1k outstanding physio though, all receipted. The bike didn't get damaged much, other than scratches, as my shoulder took the hit........... (oh and my head......)

Be prepared to hang in until you are better, and don't settle until your knee and back are good again.
