Compression socks

Iv been recommended by a fellow rider to invest in some compression socks.
I am doing a four day cycling event in September which will involve big mileage each day.
Anyone use them or have done in the past ?
Are they worth the dosh ???

are "compression socks" the same as socks that are merely too small?

A mate of mine kayaks in compression clothing. He uses them as a normal base layer. He is now in his early 60's and after a day ww paddling is a bit fatigued. He says they work

Ha ha - I'm sure it was you! Knee-length socks and shorts ... I assume that they were compression socks! It would be the year before your touring trip to France/Spain. You had just bought your touring bike.
