lately the Windows VISTA Security Updates have been laden with errors
also, on their advice i have disabled/removed the Sidebar with their ''Fixit'' download
MS says it is/was so open to attack that they left it out of Windows 7
[PS - i know sweet FA - just wot they said in their Security Bulletins]

anyway i missed the desktop calendar, so downloaded one of the Web

SCREWED.......................Malware infected
Security Centre reports AVAST AV not updated
try to update - blocked. try to SCAN - wont complete

Security Centre reports MBAM not updated
try to update - blocked. try to SCAN - wont complete
tried to install with MBAM Chameleon work-around -- - blocked. try to SCAN - wont complete

RESTORE POINT to the earliest listed don't cure the problem

finally.............the question

A....clean instal of Windows VISTA [ £50 at my local PC Shop.]
or
B....upgrade to Windows [which.?] ... and why.?

Windows 7, it's not Vista and it's not 8.
I've managed to dodge the worst Windows versions, 7 has been mostly fine, I won't be upgrading till at least 9.

I'm using an Equium A100 with vista, i switched the automatic updates off as it was taking to much memory.(so much faster turned off)
I use Microsoft security essentials with Superantispyware and use Malwarebytes if i notice anything odd.
Don't know if this is any help?

thanks
have just retrieved the 25digit code OK - but this may be a problem

''The DVD is bootable, so you may need to enter your BIOS settings to change the boot priority''

At start up you press something like Delete when you get to the first screen - it should say which button to press.

You then enter the BIOS settings and work along the top until you see Boot.

Click on Boot and then change the first boot option to CD from HDD

Then Press something like F10 to save and exit.

The pc on re-start will then boot from the CD.

(Don't forget to change this back when finished).

.................. i switched the automatic updates off
yes me too - not so much memory usage but more wanting to control what was downloaded
a tip [you may know]
when the Update come out
i wait a week - then Google ''problems with Update HB 29xxxxx''
surprising how many conflicts are reported - then i don't download/install but hide them

I use Microsoft security essentials with Superantispyware and use Malwarebytes
yes to all three...Security centre is reporting SAS and MBAM 'out of date' and they wont update/run.......

Don't know if this is any help?
thanks.
i've had VISTA for ''ages'' now - who knows what crap files are floating around.?
perhaps time enough for a clean install or an upgrade.?

well the CD recovery CD is cheap enough
if i totally SNAFU - then the local PC shop who built it can do me a fresh install

they are a local family Computer build/repair shop in my village - unusual - but 'seem' to be making a living OK
