Yesterday I had to drive to work and at about 5:30pm I pulled out of the gateway and didn't realise until I looked in my rear view mirror that there was a cyclist in a bright yellow jacket about three car lengths back. I had cut him up and I always take cyclists into account when I am driving; obviously not this time.
It just shows that even if you think you have looked before manoevering, there is always the chance you have missed something.
In this case I think it was because the cyclist was bending over his handlebars and I wouldnt have seen much yellow at all until I looked back. Front view is virtually invisible compared to side view it seems.
I put my hand up to acknowledge my mistake and we exchanged an "OK". He probably thought I was another prat in a car and in that instance - I was.
