Confused touring...

I'm an experienced tour cyclist...and proudly own a Dawes World tour '97 from new, a classic in my opinion.
So do I pull all the gears off, add new wheels etc or just buy a new brand of touring bike?
Or just run it, as it would still be able to get you round the world...

Is there anything wrong with the gears or wheels? If not, just run it. Why not?
