Never had a conservatory before, never liked the idea of them but we're in a rented house for a few months and it's got one. It's a plastic one with a twin-wall plastic roof, it's like a fuggin' oven at the moment.

We only use it for storage but if you use one as a real room what on earth do you do when it's hot enough to make your eyeballs melt?

We inherited one when we bought the house. On days like this it was like turning the living room into a greenhouse. It lasted two summers before we gave up on it and sold it.

When we were looking for a house to buy it had to have a conservatory. Would never buy a house without one.
We love it and near live in the bloody thing.

It's south facing so can be very warm in the summer but shutting a few blinds facing the sun keeps it cool.
In winter it's fantastic as you do get the feeling of being outside but without the cold wet weather.

Since jnr decided to grace us with his presence it seems to have now turned into one great big toy den.

We inherited one and I hate it. Like a greenhouse in the summer and impossible to heat in the winter, prone to condensation and mould. Better off building a proper extension with a pitched roof.

My folks have one. Instead of being plastic/metal its made out of brick and wood (with glass windows obviously). It is more like a "proper" extension, but with lots of glass.

MOST of the year its a lovely place to sit, light and airy with a good view all around (its on the second floor... don't ask). Even on most warm days with the doors to the balconey open it doesn't get too hot. However on days like we've had this week, the thing is closed up and avoided like the plague.

We had one put on our house when we moved in about 6 years ago. Low brick walls and UPVC upper part with french doors onto the garden. £12k I could have found a far better use for if I'm honest.

Miss S has it as her play room. I'm greatful for the additional storage space, but a usuable room it 'aint IMO.

I think Mrs S has plans to use it for a.n.other purpose when Miss S has grown up, but I suspect it will just become a general dumping ground myself.
