how many times have you heard, or even joked yourself,,that your washing machine/home PC// TV / home appliance has been programmed to fail just as the warranty runs out.

Or, equally how anti viral software firms most probably write the viruses to keep the paranoia flowing.

And then, how many times do you just tut and scoff at the daftness of your own conspiracy theory, safe in the knowledge that stuff like that could never happen....in the real world.

Then you find that one of the largest and most respected motor manufacturers, in the world, has been shown to have built in a device that can detect when it' s engines are being tested for emissions, and switch itself to a clean running mode, reducing its emissions by a factor of 10, to pass an otherwise unobtainable goal...before heading out of the test centre to pollute the environment even more than it did before emissions testing was even though of

If it's possible for an organisation of this size and stature to operate in such a dishonest, deliberately deceptive and environmentally reckless way then perhaps it's time to think twice before we disregard all those niggling concerns.

When I changed my car last year one of the motors I was contemplating was a 2L Passat estate diesel, due to the VED (nearly typed road tax ) being something minimal like £25 per year.
I take it this will all be recalculated and charged accordingly? VW should foot the back pay bill too.

I never bought one in the end.

Get this.

A week or so, before I headed out on a walk I set the breadmaker running. The chosen route passed and entered a charity shop spotting an old, near unused breadmaker. With the internal pan being a more convenient size I purchased the said machine to collect at a more convenient time.

Anyway I arrived home to fresh bread, the paddle mechanism then physically breaks off as I take out the bread.
Maybe I insulted it.

Most of the noise and emissions dodges are well documented, but no one has really given a damn until this week.

EU vehicles are so far removed from the official figures it's a joke. Over inflation of tyres, taping up of door shuts folding in of mirrors, removal of the spare, tools and even rear seats, using uber thin oil, even going as far as winding the camber in/out so much that the tyres are running on a tiny contact patch...these are wheezes common to just out about every manufacturer trying to get EU compliance certification but no one seems to give a monkeys. All VW have done is be very clever about it when pulling a similar dodge for the US.

If people are suddenly going to burst blood vessels over such tomfoolery then they really need to be hauling just about every car and motorbike manufacturer to account. Just because VWs dodge is more sophisticated than the others doesn't make it any more dishonest.

Much like government interception of electronic communications, the fact - if not always the exact mechanism - has been known and in the public domain since the Eighties. I'd be keen to know why its suddenly become hot news this week. What other interesting snippet is being overlooked and deliberately burried in the avalanche of indignation aimed at VW? And who is engineering this manipulation of the media? Who stands to gain from this? Now there's a conspiracy theory for you.

I noticed on my last couple of rides that the farmers have started cutting their hedgerows again, strewing thorny detritus all over the road, and increasing the chances of punctures. I'm wondering if there is any evidence that inner tube manufacturers are passing brown envelopes stuffed with fivers to the farmers?

I can definitely trump that.

last winter, I was collecting my wife and kids from the O2 after a concert. My daughter, for no reason at all suddenly said "dad, when do yo think we will sell the car and get a new one". I told her that I hoped she hadn't offended the car as we still had a few miles to go.

200 yards later at the lights on 5 ways in Sidcup, the engine revved, the clutch seized and the car came to an abrupt stop.

Had to get rescued home. Never had a car brake down on me before that night.
