I figured you had a 1 in 7 chance of being right ... but could only be bothered to check one packet of crisps ... and you are right ... they are best before next Sat (better finish them off quick :biggrin: ).

Brilliant documentary a while back where the presenter lived on 'out of date' food with no problems. Use by dates are one of the biggest causes of food wastage.

We make our own judgements on food quality in this household, often using food that's past its use by date, occasionally rejecting food that's not yet reached it.

When I was doing supermarket deliveries years ago, I never used to take sandwiches to work with me. There was nearly always a skip round the back of the store with lots of perfectly edible food in it - pasties usually - whose only crime was to be on its sell by date.

Same as salt and pepper, due to no water/moisture in there, mold and bugs etc.. can't grow ;)
