I'm thinking of doing 'something' but I'm not sure what? Some kind of long distance ride (Ideally 4 days - so i don't need to take time off work! although could be longer if needed) but just wondered if anyone had any tips to route planning on the continent? ie. france, Holland etc. Ideally which roads are their equivelant to motorways so i can avoid them!
Cheers
Mick

In France stick to the smaller D-roads and other local roads - the ones to avoid are the routes nationales or any D-road marked in red, or red and white, on Michelin maps. Motorways are autoroutes, and marked in red and yellow.

You could get to Holland on an overnight ferry so you wouldn't waste travelling time and it's reputedly a very bike-friendly place. Cycle lanes and paths a plenty. I'm going there next month so I'll let you know!

Rich, That'd be great thanks! I've tentatively looked at that as an option because I could ride to Hull in a day, ferry then a ride in Holland or 2?, then a ride back from Hull all in my 4 days off - hopefully! lol
