I have recently had a problem where my Contour HD just wont turn on.
The camera has a separate on switch and record switch. The on switch is at the back of the camera.

Recently (well last night), I pressed the on switch and nothing happened. I thought the batteries might be dead so changed it to the spare. That didnt work though.
So I thought that camera was properly broken. However, when I plug it into my computer it charges and appears fine.

Can anyone who has had a Contour please provide me with an insight into what has gone wrong? (The likes of @gaz ).
Has the switch inside broken, has something wore out? The camera is only 1 year old (from when I got it second hand) so what has happened?

If you open the back door, can you turn it on by pressing in that button there. Might need a paper clip.

Plugging it in is different to the power button. Just sounds like the power switch is duff. You could take it apart and have a look, be careful not to loose any screws.

I have emailed Contour. I have seen a message saying that they will send you the replacement parts and instructions of how to change yourself. Hopefully I will get a good response.

Well I have found the problem. The power button is connected to the motherboard by four soldered corners of the switch. Two of the points have snapped off. So I can now turn the camera on if I push the button down but it wont turn off again unless I do the same.
I tried to fix if with some tape but it hasnt worked. I will ask my dad if I can borrow his solder and fix it.

At least I know it is repairable.

PS Don't mess with a soldering Iron unless you know how to use it. I get my 12 year old lad to do stuff like that for me - he is a dab hand. You'll wreck the camera if you don't do it right - it's easy to damage the PCB connectors.
