Cordless drill/driver. Which one should I get?

I have a fifteen year old 9.6v Hitachi one. It has been used and abused quite shamelessly and still runs but the two batteries are on their last legs. I fancy an 18 volt one. I absolutely don't want or need a hammer/SDS action. I have a 5kg SDS jobbie for that stuff. Can you parishioners suggest a model other than anything by Makita? I've had bad experiences from them. I won't bore you to death with the details.

Edit: Actually, it's probably closer to twenty two years old.

I think "Trade" rather than "Industrial", and a recognised manufacturer. About £100.

If price is not an issue at all then festool. Caveat - i've not got their drill, nor anyone's drill, but festool sanders (I have 3 at last count) and track saw are all superb - but buttock clenching price. Arguably they're overpriced to be honest - but bloody good though. Other caveat - I'm merely a gentleman amateur, but a pal is a pro and really rates them - and he uses their drill-driver a lot

I'm tempted by that every time I nip down to the local Screwfix but I really don't need the hammer action. I would much rather the money was spent on a decent drill/driver action.

To be honest the hammer action is none existent (joiner)

It can stick a 10mm hole through a 6mm 316SS plate.

When I got mine it came in a kit with three batteries for about £120.

The Festool portable saw set up is quite awesome. Wincingly expensive, like all their stuff. I can't run to that type of budget, alas.

The Festool portable saw set up is quite awesome. Wincingly expensive, like all their stuff. I can't run to that type of budget, alas.

I self-justified the track saw for cutting a gentle taper on kitchen plinth pieces. Taper of 8mm down to zero over a 2m lenght. My first ever cut with the thing and it was absolutely cock-on first time - and huge time saver compared to planing and would have been a mess with a jigsaw. One of the best bits of kit I've ever bought. I see makita, bosch etc have since brought out track saws too.

Just bought one of these, so that I could convert my attic. I've just screwed in thousands of screws, installing plaster board as well as lots of drilling. No hammer action though It's really powerful and lots of control. The battery lasts an age and there are two of them, so when one runs out you don't need to wait for it to charge. Really happy with it.
